This saddle was possibly built in the 1950's by Bona Allen Company. It has a 15" seat, partial tooling, brass conchos and a good solid rawhide covered tree, usable, but is a collector's item. This firm was established in 1873, operated a tannery and leather goods factory. Today the 86+ year old tannery and leather goods factory may well be the largest of its kind in the country. The company takes special pride in its saddle making. In the saddle-making section dozens of employees demonstrate that the art of leather craft still lives. Hours of work with mallet and stamping tools have gone into carving the inricate designs traditional for western saddles. Bona Allen died in 1925 and left the firm in the hands of his three sons, Bona, Jr., John and Victor. Under the management the company continued to follow the founder's policy of producing what he firmly believed was the best leather in the nation. Allen's descendants still follow his successful business formula of quality and craftsmanship. This is your opportunity to own that quality craftsmanship for many years. Collector saddles with this much history attain more value every year. $500 |
